Ocean County Press Release
ESTABLISHED IN 1947, the United States Air Force is celebrating its 73rd Birthday today.
"We honor all of the men and women that serve in the United States Air Force," said Ocean County Freeholder Director Joseph H. Vicari. "We are honored to support the great work done by our Air Force at Joint Base – McGuire, Dix, Lakehurst. Our military is second to none and we are grateful every day that the U.S. Air Force is securing our skies and protecting our freedoms."
Ocean County is home to one of the largest veteran populations in the state with almost 40,000 veterans calling the County home.
"We take great pride in our veterans and the service they have given to our country," Vicari said.
The U.S. Air Force is the youngest of the five military services. It became a separate service on Sept. 18, 1947 after President Harry S. Truman signed the National Security Act of 1947.
"The United States Air Force plays an integral role in combat operations, assisting during natural disasters or safeguarding us both home and abroad," Vicari said. "I join with my colleagues on the Board of Freeholders in saluting the U.S. Air Force for a job well done."
